The East Central Region of the Carolinas is a region well known to many people throughout the United States. It encompasses well-known tourist destinations like Myrtle Beach and many historic communities in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina and the Sandhills region of North Carolina. These areas were hit hard by Hurricane Matthew. Many people are still without housing and struggling to get back on their feet.
Relief efforts are underway for both coastal and inland residents of this region, especially communities that were devastated like Lumberton, NC and Nichols, SC. A disaster recovery fund, managed by the Waccamaw Community Foundation, is now accepting donations. The funds collected for the “Hurricane Matthew Relief Fund of the East Central Carolinas” will be used for human services that are currently unmet, enabling the residents of this region to recover as quickly as possible.
Funds will be distributed to organizations providing necessary relief, including the local chapters of the American Red Cross.
